The NDAC Purge newspaper clippings scrapbooks, 1937-1939

Newspaper clippings in scrapbooks (many loose leaf) about the resignation of North Dakota Agricultural College's President John H. Shepperd and the dismissal of eight staff members : H.L. Walster, A.H. Parrott, Alba Bales, R.M. Dolve, I.W. Smith, P.J. Olson, Norbert D. Gorman and Jean Traynor. The State Board of Administration, acting on behalf of Gov. William Langer, dismissed the staff members on July 29, 1937 and appointed John C. West, president of the University of North Dakota, as acting president of NDAC. The Board's actions, believed to be political, resulted in the College losing its accreditation. Accreditation was restored after a citizen initiated measure lead to the establishment of the State Board of Higher Education and the reinstatement of the dismissed employees.
